Named Entity Recognition (NER)

What is NER?

Named Entity Recognition identifies and classifies named entities (people, places, organizations, etc.) in text into predefined categories.
Why is NER important?

• Extract structured information from unstructured text
• Build knowledge graphs and databases
• Improve search and information retrieval
• Enable question answering systems
• Support document analysis and summarization

Common Entity Types

  • 👤
    PERSON
    Names of people, including first names, last names, and titles
  • 🌍
    LOCATION
    Cities, countries, regions, addresses, landmarks
  • 🏢
    ORGANIZATION
    Companies, institutions, government agencies
  • DATE/TIME
    Dates, times, periods, durations
